Gustav V (1858-1950) king of Sweden on 8 December 1907, the eldest son of Oscar II and Sofia of Nassau.

As a constitutional monarch he became an active participant in the political life of the country. In 1914, during the constitutional crisis, he demonstrated the firmness of their beliefs, defending the necessity of neutrality of Sweden. During the Second world war Gustav had held the same position as in the First world war. He was convinced of the opportunity to preserve Sweden's neutrality by strengthening its military preparedness and urged Swedes not to succumb to the propaganda of Nazism.
