Shevyrev, Stepan Petrovich (1806-1864) - Russian literary critic, historian of literature and art, poet. In 1835-1837, G. G., Shevyrev, a leading critic of the "Moscow observer". In 1841 he, along with M. P. Pogodin led the magazine "Moskvityanin". This publication is a travelogue, compiled by the author while travelling around the North of Russia. His journey took place in ancient Russian cities: Yaroslavl, Vologda, Kirillov, Belozersk, Cherepovets and others. The author notes that the story included the "reasoning conversation with a remarkable man, the living speech of the common people, countryside, nature, impressions of the cities and villages, monuments of ancient Russia, monasteries, churches, icons and the Charter, activities of Russia's new customs and manners, legends, folk language and his physiognomy". A rare edition.
