This stone-age axe comes from the famous collection of Max Loehr, and had been discovered in accordance with its records in Inner Mongolia. Loehr lived until 1988, was a German scientist and taught most recently at Harvard University - see also below. The black cleaver has a simple shape, which widens to the cutting edge of something. The body is strong, has an Opening for a handle - is not present. The main areas are on the cutting edge slightly arc, the cutting edge is more blunt. Only on one side of the longitudinal edges are beveled, and the narrower back is considerably wider. Grinding marks are visible on the piece. Due to the age of the exposed edges, particularly in the area of the cutting edge outbreaks. It should be noted that Loehr has called the piece a “chisel”, in German chisel or gouge. The word “gouge” is today no longer in use, and “chisel” you can have quite a different idea. We call it “settling”, because it corresponds to purely formally, such a, albeit reduced in size.

Expertise: Wolfmar Zacken & Filippo Salviati
Prior to the possession of Max Loehr, the piece was in the collection of Dr. Mueller, from this it was acquired by Charlotte Horstmann, 1948 it came into the collection Loehr, and then J. J. Lally, New York. Max Loehr was from Chemnitz, studied and worked in Munich, Beijing, taught at the Tsinghua University, then in Michigan. Loehr has eight Fachbüche published, including "ANCIENT CHINESE JADES", Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Massachusetts
