Top right, signed and 1903 dated. Oil on canvas, 97.5 x 129 cm. Doubled. Restored Edge Bereibungen. Framework min. dam. Jean-Eugène Buland was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Alexandre Cabanel and Adolphe Yvon and gave in 1873, his salon debut. He achieved great fame with his religious-moral representations as well as for his genre depictions of the worker and peasant life. Works of the artist are to be found today in numerous museums in France including the Musée d'orsay, Paris and at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Bordeaux. The Musée des Beaux-Arts in Carcassonne has dedicated to him 2007/8 a retrospective.
