Jacques Courtois has already won shortly after his arrival in Rome in 1639 special fame as a specialist in paintings of battle scenes and fight scenes. As a battle painter, the artist is not a matter of historical battles, the participants were clearly to identify, to represent, but to the realistic portrayal of all the battle details, the horrors of war in General.
