FIRE-GILT BRONZE OF THE DAMCAN ON GOAT
Fire-Gilded Bronze
Tibet
18. until the early 19th century. Century.
HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 8.3 CM
Very nice small, entirely gold-plated Bronze of the rare Damcan, also called Dorle and one of the companions of the Mahapancaraja, the kings of the "Big Five". By far the best known of this group and their leader is Pehar, also Vajrasadhu. Very similar and with the same characteristic headpiece is also Damcan sitting on his riding animal, however, this is a very amusing framed goat with lively rich head, etc. Damcan is an old Bon-demon-deity in the Bronze, it offers gestural the demons defense and shows a grim face.
