Pair Of Lions
Counterparts. Bronze, dark brown patina. Signed and dated 1913; foundry inscription "CAST H. PELARGUS, STUTTGART" and "H. PELARGUS, STUTTGART". On a rectangular plinth, modern stylized lion. Rare Art Nouveau Figurines Diver. This studied after his training at the art school in Nuremberg, and in the art foundry of Paul Stotz in Stuttgart, commercial, 1902-1905 at the Karlsruhe art Academy as master student of Hermann Volz. As a freelance, sought-after sculptor in Karlsruhe, he designed a series of sculptures for the public space in the southwest of Germany, including the well-known worm rider fountain in the Colombi Park in Freiburg (1905). A lion ger. damaged; H. 33.5 cm, L. 54 cm.
A pair of patinated bronze lions. Signed and dated 1918. Cast by H. Pelargus, Stuttgart (inscribed). Minor flaws to one lion.
