Oil/canvas, 128 x 107 cm, signed lower right and Fritz Mackensen Worpswede 1907 dated, on the stretcher frame inventory label of the Museum Moritzburg Halle, 1954, as well as label of the Kunstverein. - The artist shows the Portrait in front of the famous curved stairway to Heinrich Vogelers Worpsweder residence. Margarethe Gocht was one of the first women, which resulted in a hydrogen balloon. Her husband, the Professor of medicine Hermann Gocht (1869-1938) was a pioneer of radiology, and with Mackensen close friends. Exhibitions: Museum Moritzburg Halle, 1954. - Provenance: Hermann Gocht from the artist in order Moritzburg Halle, 1954; German private collection; from the collection Gocht to the Museum. - Mackensen, one of the most important German landscape painters of the turn of the century, was one of the founders of the artists ' colony of Worpswede. Together with O. Modersohn u. F. Overbeck he studied m. 1884 at the düsseldorf Academy under P. Janssen, thereafter at the Munich Academy under W. von Diez & F. A. von Kaulbach. Already in 1884, M. had visited for the first time in Worpswede, where he co-founded in 1889, together with modersohn & H. at the end of the artists ' colony, was joined by, among others, H. Vogeler u. P. modersohn-Becker. This most famous artist of the group has received an order from Mackensen from 1898 painting lessons. M. was in 1910, Director of the Weimar Academy but returned in 1918 to Worpswede. In 1934 he obtained the Post as the founding Director of the Bremen College of art. Among his numerous awards are the Villa-Romana-price in 1907. His life's work was honored in 1941 with the Goethe medal. Museum: Worpswede, Bremen, Weimar, Hanover, Oldenburg, Germany.
