WARMERDAM, MARIJKE VAN
1959 Nieuwer-Amstel

Title: Raket (Rocket).
Date: 1998.
Technique: Colour silkscreen and metal foil on foam plastic panels over a metal frame with a foot pedal.
Measurement: In unfired state ca. 88 x 166 x 94 cm.

From an edition of 30 copies + 1 artist’s proof. Here, the artist references Belgian comic book culture. Such a rocket appears in the comic Tintin, and the artist asked the comic’s author, Hergé, if she could use the rocket’s distinctive color pattern. The work is listed on the artist’s official website (https://marijkevanwarmerdam.com/sculpture-and-installation/raket-rocket/). The rocket can actually be launched using the foot pedal.

Condition:
Slight rubbings on the surface, above all on the edges. Partially small chippings in the corners (max. ca. 0.8 x 0.3 cm). Minimal stainings on the surface. Slight accumulations of dust on the folded section and the frame. The top coating is partially peeling off the panels at the creased areas. Slight corrosion at the base of the frame. Otherwise in good condition.
