Immendorf is one of the most famous contemporary German artists. He studied at the düsseldorf Academy, among others, with J. Beuys, & castle's friendship with the then still living in the GDR A. R. Penck. His breakthrough I. experienced with the 16 images comprehensive cycle 'Café Germany'. I. held a number of lectureships & professorships, including at the Frankfurt städel school of art & the Academy in Düsseldorf. He exhibited at the Documenta and the Venice Biennale.
