The Holy family with Saint John Oil on canvas. 123,5 x 96 cm. Doubled. Restored. Min. dam. The profile frame with the pipes cut and stick décor dam Rotary. An unknown artist from probably the direct successor of Andrea del Sartos was at the painting of two well-known already by Giorgio Vasari in his Künstlerviten-mentioned works of the master, inspire: The composition is the same with deviations, inter alia, in terms of the design of the background and the colour of the "Sacra Famiglia Borgherini" (1528 Oil on wood, 135 x 100 cm; New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art), the figure of Mary, however, their direct model in the "Carità" (1528/29; Oil on wood, 122 x 93 cm; Washington, National Gallery of Art, Kress Collection), the color of garment modified, however, in a bright, yellow iridescent coral. The artist seems to be with two paintings from my own experience, be familiar have been, however, the use of canvas as a picture carrier for a subsequent emergence, as well as the characteristic and distinctive design of the physiognomies of Mary and of the child to be an artist close leaves that imitates the style of the master, as otherwise, in the case of direct workshop members often fixable - strictly speaking in technical terms. Also by the models of the different colours of the painter shows itself and the Create one of the leading Florentine artists of his time stylistically, "emancipated". The Johann-boy with the Christ child together with the globe or keeps them, while this reaches out to you - is an iconographic peculiarity, which is in direct connection with the formation of the above-mentioned "Sacra Famiglia Borgherini". This was given by Giovanni Borgherini, a major supporter of the short-lived Florentine Republic (since 1527) in order. The "world" in the hands of the son of God, and of the young John the Baptist, the patron Saint of Florence: a Symbol of the Republican government, which had declared in February, 1528, Christ, by the attachment of an inscription above the entrance to the Palazzo della Signoria to the "Rex populi florentini". Unusual and remarkable in this painting a number of respects in ikonographi the presentation of Mary with exposed breast in the direct Acquisition of the "Carità". The nourishing mother of God, as a motif rooted in the history of art, but here, her son turns to her and of the globe. According to the previous owner of a later applied veil has been removed on the chest in the framework of a restoration. Cf. Natali, Antonio Cecchi, Alessandro, Andrea del Sarto.
