This very striking small glossy Cong is typical for the Neolithic culture of Qijia nature 家. Impressive here is the grain with its striking contrasts of a cool green-gray to a deep Black. The demarcation is irregular and there are veins. The almost square Cong has straight edges and widened upwards, slightly, on both sides of the head are ring-shaped collars. This Cong is strikingly thick-walled, with 8 to 9mm. The bore shows the technical difficulties, the usual level is small, the channel widens towards the top. In the focused light of a yellow green hue, the Black on the edges is reddish.

Notes by Prof. Salviati: A very similar, miniature cong carved in a dark brown and opaque buff jade, from the collection of R. H. Ellsworth (1929-2014), has been sold at Christie's New York on 19 March 2015 (Sale 11420), Lot 561: http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/lot/a-miniature-grey-dark-brown-and-opaque-5876618-details.aspx?from=salesummery&intObjectID=5876618&sid=99a72b8d-24b2-40a7-a133-4f2f8791a87e
