Gandhara
. 4. to 5. Century. TL-tested
HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 65.5 CM, WITH BASE 79,2 CM
Facial features and drapery are affected in this sculpture, far from the Hellenistic style that has influenced the art of Gandhara,. The greater sensuality in the expression, the more "Baroque-like" of the whole appearance, show this later in Gandhara time, the more frequent occurrence of Indian Idiom. Big eyes with a faraway expression, the root of the nose, an Urna, a note on the Bodhisattva. A down-held Hand holds a zierhaften bag, inside the Nectar container with the amrta giving, therefore, this Skultptur would have to be the Bodhisattva Maitreya (Metteya). His Symbol, the Stupa in the Diadem, is not to recognize properly, the second Arm is missing. A shoulder is naked, Jewelry ring around the upper arm to the wrist as well. Remarkable the hühnenhafte shoulder and chest of the Bodhisattva, a celestial Healing. This well-fitting full flowing hairstyle (related to this is a very similar example of "Bodhisattva with a long a head of Curls" in the Central Museum, Lahore), which complements very lively designed pleats and expanded the Large-scale in this sculptural Occur. The feet are no longer available. The sculpture is mounted on a solid black Base.
