Pastel, 17 x 21 cm, under passe-partout and glass framed, unopened. - Literature: This sheet is published with illustration in: Heinrich Ehmsen. Paintings, watercolours, drawings and graphic art from the private collection of the family Ehmsen, 2009, p. 152. - Provenance: From the artist's family. - German Painter. E. made in Kiel training to be a painter, 1906-10, he studied at the art school in Düsseldorf. The following year, he was in Paris, where he studied at the Académie colarossi and studied, and Karl Hofer know. After a period in Munich, where he had contact with the Blue riders, and Jawlensky, moved it in 1929 to Berlin and joined the 'November group'. In 1930, he was together with G. Schrimpf, and K. Schmidt-Rottluff a guest of the Villa Massimo in Rome in 1932, he traveled to the Soviet Union, and introduced there as well. The national socialists were considered his works as 'degenerate'. 1945 E. was under Karl Hofer Deputy Director of the newly founded Hochschule für Bildende Künste. On the occasion of his 70. Birth day honoured him, the Old national gallery in Berlin with a retrospective. Museum: St. Petersburg (Hermitage), Berlin (Old Nat.-Gal.), Dresden (Gem.-Gal.
