Alexander Maximilian Seitz was a German historical painter, son of engraver Johann Baptist Seitz and father of Ludwig Seitz. He was already a pupil of Peter von Cornelius and Heinrich Maria von Hess. In 1835 Seitz travelled with Cornelius to Rome, where he joined the Nazarenes and was particularly close to Friedrich Overbeck.
