In 1937 in Germany his work had been branded as "Degenerate Art" and removed from all public museums. Much of the work removed was later destroyed by the Nazi regime.

Ernst Heinrich Barlach was a German expressionist sculptor, medallist, printmaker and writer. Although he was a supporter of the war in the years leading to World War I, his participation in the war made him change his position, and he is mostly known for his sculptures protesting against the war. Hans Bellmer was a German graphic artist, sculptor, photographic artist, illustrator, and writer who spent most of his life in France.
In the 1930s Bellmer began working on the eroticized image of the deformed doll, contrasting it with the aesthetics of the "classical" body in Hitler's Germany. His graphic and literary explorations focus on the dismemberment and liberation of bodies. Bellmer's surrealist works are violent and provocative: they include puppet sculptures composed of the bodies of nude models, photographs, and prints.

Ludwig Gies was a German painter. He was best known for his paintings and prints, which were influenced by Expressionism and the New Objectivity movement.
Gies studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and then at the Kunstgeverbeschule in Berlin. Otto Hettner was a German painter, graphic artist, illustrator and sculptor.
Hettner studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe with Robert Petzelberger and at the Académie Julian in Paris, then lived in Florence for a year and studied again, this time at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. In 1916 he became a member of the executive committee of the Free Secession, and the following year he became director and professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, where he worked until 1927.
Otto Hettner illustrated various books for well-known publishing houses. After the artist's death, the Nazis, who came to power in Germany, considered Hettner's works degenerate, and in 1937, as part of the campaign "Degenerate Art" 15 of his works were confiscated from museums.


Bernhard Hoetger is a German painter, sculptor, graphic artist and architect. He studied at the Dusseldorf Academy of Art.

Oskar Schlemmer was a German artist, painter, sculptor, choreographer and designer, and was associated with the Bauhaus movement.
Schlemmer studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Stuttgart before becoming a student at the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1920. He taught at the Bauhaus from 1923 to 1929, and was the director of the theater workshop from 1924 to 1929. During this time, he developed a unique style that combined elements of sculpture, painting, and dance.
Schlemmer's work often explored the relationship between the human body and space, and he created a number of abstract figures and costumes for dance performances. Kurt Sohns was a German artist of the twentieth century. He is known as a painter, draughtsman, graphic artist and sculptor.
Sohns created paintings, mosaics, and murals, with a particular interest in depicting interiors and decorative furnishings. In 1932 he became an assistant professor at the Hanover School of Applied Arts, but was expelled in 1937 by the Nazis, who declared his work "degenerate art". After World War II, Sohns worked as a freelance artist and teacher. His works are held in museums and galleries in Paris, Munich, Hannover, Zurich, Dresden and other cities.
