Art, antiques and ancient artefacts. 100th jubilee auction
On May 14th, starting at 10 a.m., an impressive collection of over 750 lots spanning from ancient artifacts to modern masterpieces will be auctioned off, showcasing items from exquisite musical instruments to delicate porcelain statues.
For enthusiasts of ancient warfare, the auction presents a rare opportunity with a diverse array of helmets. Highlighted among these is an exceptional Illyrian helmet from the latter half of the 6th to the 5th century B.C., labeled as lot number 32. Crafted from a single piece of bronze and remarkably well-preserved, this helmet exemplifies ancient craftsmanship at its finest, with bidding starting at 8,000 euros.
Art collectors will be drawn to lot number 227, an extraordinary oil painting by Justus Sustermans, a prominent Flemish baroque artist. The painting portrays Caterina di Ferdinando de' Medici, Duchess of Mantua, in an elegant brocade gown and pearl accessories, reflecting her status and style. Sustermans, celebrated for his portraits of the Medici family and other significant figures of his era, offers a glimpse into the grandeur of the past through this artwork, available from 5,000 euros.
Among the objets d'art, a striking piece is a lidded bowl of solid gilt silver standing 33 cm tall, crafted by the renowned Karl Fabergé in 1874, as indicated by lot number 642. Fabergé, famed for his luxurious creations for royalty and nobility across Europe and Asia, produced this piece during the height of his career. Despite the abrupt end to his illustrious journey in 1918, his legacy endures through works like this bowl, which is set to find a new home for 30,000 euros.
