Antiques decanter

Antique decanters are rare utensils. If you still regard them as ordinary glasses and mugs, then you have a lot of catching up to do.

We can define a decanter as a stoppered glass container into which wine is decanted. They are used to hold high-distilled drinkable liquids and wines and they come in varied shapes and designs.

Antique Carafe or Decanters?

There has been an age-long confusion between antique carafes and decanters. While many persons regard them as the same, others count it as very fallacious to even think of them as the same.

Our opinion? They are both different in some sense and similar in others. (Oh yes we are sitting on the fence today).

  • Carafes and decanters are different in shape: decanters are built with a long noose like top to allow decanted wine breath, carafes? Not necessarily so.
  • Different in traditional usage: traditionally, both are used to serve drinks, but while decanters are used for serving wine, carafes are for example, used in serving juices, water and beverages.
