Lot 451CAPS, ALBERT 1836 Wildberg (Schwarzwald) - 1914 Stuttgart
Wind-up signed by a Thunderstorm at the Starnberger see R. u., place name Munich, and dated. Oil on canvas. 76 x 118 cm. Doubled. Restored. Framework min. dam. Albert Caps initially completed litho apprenticeship before he started his studies of painting at the academies in Stuttgart (1855-60) and in Munich (1860), under the history painter Karl Theodor von Piloty. The style of influencing, however, were his encounters with the landscape painters of his time, such as creep, Lier, want to roider or Carl Ebert, who inspired him to landscape compositions with figurative scenes from the people. From 1874 onwards, the motifs were taken primarily to the Chiemsee, or, as here on lake Starnberg, which have a high atmospheric density, by increasing light, water and clouds effects dramatically.
