Design in 1956 for the Herman Miller Collection, Michigan, a little later execution by Vitra, Weil am Rhein. Black Version: seat and backrest shell made of ash, lacquered black, the removable cushions, covers in black leather, 5-star base in die-cast aluminum, height 80 cm, width 85 cm, depth 70 cm. Matching Ottoman, height 40 cm, width 63 cm, depth 50 cm. Signs of wear.
Charles & Ray Eames.
American design couple who designs embossed with its functional, the history of the post-war designs significantly. Charles Eames studied architecture in St. Louis and in 1930 opened his own architectural office, taught from 1940 on, Design at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. 1941 married Ray Kaiser studied painting. From 1946 the production of Eames furniture designs, the company Hermann Miller in Zeeland, Michigan, and the construction of the iconic 'Eames House', from 1957 collaboration with Vitra. In 1964-65, the Couple was responsible for the IBM pavilion at the world exhibition in New York.
