Lot 369Ellen Rieder, MARIA (ANNA M.) in 1791, Constance - 1863, ibid., attributed to
Madonna Oil on canvas. 64 x 58 cm. Restored. Min. dam. Framework min. dam. Maria (Marie) Ellen Rieder is one of the most important German artists of her time, she was the first woman who was admitted in 1813, at the age of 22 to study at the art Academy in Munich. She then worked as a portrait painter for a variety of South-West German Courts. Ellenrieder held between 1822 and 1824 in Rome, in order to deepen their training. By the contact with the Nazarenes, their style and even their motives have changed fundamentally. She turned away from portrait painting and created in the subsequent period, mostly of religious Subjects, which are significantly influenced by the Nazar-African art. The present painting is likely to be built around 1820, before the stylistic change. Provenance: South German Private Property.
