Catalog number: VS0617-327
Bronze with inlays in silver, Gold and copper
Japan
Meiji Period (1868 - 1912)
HEIGHT 45, 2 CM
Intricately designed showpiece, which consists of six Parts, namely a Base with a three-legged walk, a Vase, collar and separate the estuary, the most extensive decay, as well as the handles. The alloy of this Bronze is likely to be a Shibuichi, it was added to the copper, silver, and the beautiful olive drab sound to reach. On the Base edging with rows of C-forms to the foot, fluttering leaves and bats and stylized mythical animal-pairs as well as the meander. The Vase itself in the big, curved-framed reserves of flowers and birds, and against a side in the Grass sitting dog. The different stylized mythical animals (or dragons) are also found here. On the openwork collar, a Japanese variation of the ancient Chinese Taotie monster. The plate-like wide mouth only on the rounded lip curled up tendrils shaped trim, in the interior of the engraved representation of the Lotus. The handle grips are removable and represent the long-tailed phoenixes, in Japan the Ho-o. The deposits are made of silver, Gold (or gold-plated metal) and copper, they are flat, with the exception of dog and bird with flowers in the reserves, which are a Takazogan (high contribution). Very nice and matched the Patina with Polish. A rare, powerful piece.

From an Austrian private collection, then the collection of Sohel Chawla, New Delhi - Vienna
Sohel Chawla, a successful business man from Delhi who has lived several years in Vienna. The part of his collection that we offer here, was mainly acquired from the Viennese art trade. The main reason of its collecting activities, the know with a lot of expertise, sense of quality and a high level of commitment was borne, was the establishment of a private Asia Museum in his hometown, in New Delhi. Due to a serious illness, it was impossible for him to realize his Plan, and he therefore decided to pass the entire complex of the "Vienna collection" to us for sale.
