The Maritime leg, probably a Hippo tooth ivory, with beautiful Golden-yellow, shiny Patina. A resting traveler with a large hat and walking stick under the jaw and medlar sitting. In the
Background of mount Fuji, as indicated by the triangular shape of the Netsuke. It shows the
History of Saigyô Hôshi (actually, Satô Norikiyo), a member of the
Fujiwara family and famous Poet of the late Heian and early Kamakura period. In the
1137, at the age of 23, he decided to become a monk and left
the courtly life. Equipped with a large hat and walking stick Saigyô Hôshi began his
Travel and is therefore shown with these attributes. Height 3.9 cm. Condition A/B.
