In The Context Of. Provenance: Art Auction, Hugo Ruef, Munich 1994 463. Auction Catalogue No. 1232. Jozef Brandt was born in 1841 in Szczebrzeszyn in Lublin. He turns, after he began to study engineering in Paris, in 1863, at the Munich Academy to study painting. He becomes the student of Franz Adam and Karl Theodor von Piloty. Most of the time he studied and worked in the private Ateliers of the painter Franz Adam, and Theodor Horschelt and in his private Atelier in Poland. He was soon with his Cossacks and rider motifs one of the most sought-after artists. In Munich, a circle of artists of young, especially of Polish painters, the so-called Brandt-school forms of Josef Brandt. Since the end of the 1870s, his paintings are regularly represented at the exhibitions in the Paris Salon and the glass Palace in Munich, Germany and also internationally in demand.
