Lot 218Rare set of 6 sleeves covered in...
Rare set of 6 sleeves covered in porcelain, polychrome decoration of the imperial eagle of Russia on the one side and the other of the Cross of Saint-André. Good condition, slight wear. Manufactory of Meissen, Xviii century, around 1745. L. 9 cm. Provenance : These sleeves of cutlery manufactured in Meissen were made for the service of 440 parts offered by the elector of Saxony, Frederick Augustus II to the empress Elizabeth I on the occasion of the marriage of his nephew, grand duke Peter (later Peter III) with Sophie-Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst (future Catherine II). This service differs from that of the Order of Saint-André in 1780 produced by the manfuacture Gardner, in particular in the treatment of the imperial eagle, made in the natural, as well as the Saint-André, represented on a cross, sky blue and, unlike the usual, depicted without a halo with the Latin letters "S. A. P. R." (for Saint Andrew Patron of Russia).
