Lot 2055Significant dreifüßiger bronze cauldron liding
China. Late Shang/Eastern Zhou Dynasty.

Thin-walled cast Bronze with powdery green Patina and Erdanhaftungen. The three segments of the split, bulbous boiler stands on three tall cylindrical legs, which taper downwards slightly. A wide relief band extends from just below the lip to the end of the almost vertical wall. On each leg an expressive taotie is spread mask. The eyes are half-decorated globular, the nose, by a ridge, stresses, under the eyes curved shapes, which is not intended to suggest either baleen or teeth. The side and top of volute, and spiral forms in finely divided Relief. On the horizontally flared, thin lip of the boiler, a Pair of vertical Ösenhenkel. The three-piece, corrugated floor displays a Y-shape made up of thin contour lines which connects the three legs.

In the case of a liding the boiler in the form of the thing, combined with the implied three-way split of a li. Weight 1040g, height 20.7 cm/without Handle 17cm, Ø 17cm. Condition B/C.
