The Hl. Daniel instructs miners in a tunnel
In the centre of this very rare mining-representation of the Hl. Daniel as the patron Saint of the miners in a bright, long robe with a burning torch in his left Hand, which provides the light for a group of miners looking for in the floor and walls of the tunnel to the ore. Daniel is the only pre-Christian mining patron, as such, but the more well-known. As a Jewish Prophet and interpreter of dreams, under king Nebuchadnezzar II (605 - 562 BC), he arrived at the Babylonian court. In the middle ages, a series of legends developed by Daniel, which qualified him in the people also believe the reputation of a Metal, Fund grübners and mallets journeymen earned so that the miners at the same time, as a Patron and as one of their own saw. Öl/Lwd.; 56.5 cm x 72 cm.
