According to the self-imposed "captivity" of the scholar Carl Spitzweg is the penitent prisoner, the carnival and the time (to) extravagant celebration is over, the Serious side of everyday life is restored. The present painting is the sixth version within a work group. The main character is called Spitzweg "harlequin" or "clown".
