John Hawkesworth war ein britischer Schriftsteller, Dramatiker und Buchverleger.
In Zusammenarbeit mit Samuel Johnson gründete Hawkesworth die Zeitschrift The Adventurer. Er schrieb Gedichte und Artikel für diese Zeitschrift und für das Gentleman's Magazine und gab die Werke von Swift heraus (1754-1755). Hawksworth bearbeitete mehrere literarische Werke für das Theater und komponierte auch selbst mehrere dramatische Originalwerke.
John Hawksworth wurde von der britischen Admiralität beauftragt, An Account of Voyages made in the Southern Hemisphere (1773) zu verfassen, das sich hauptsächlich mit den Forschungsreisen von Kapitän James Cook befasst.
