Los 4045 | A 1939 Field Grey Service Tunic for a Scharführer of the SD
Tailored, field-grey wool, four-button front, open-collar with black/aluminum twist cord piping, French cuffs, scalloped and pleated breast pockets, scalloped flap hip pockets, grey painted pebbled buttons, belt-ramp clips at waist and two belt-ramp buttons at rear vent. Enlisted/NCO pattern SS sleeve eagle machine-embroidered in silver-grey thread over black, hand-applied. Cuff title of black band with 7-thread silver-aluminum borders, pinned on and restored, above that a SD sleeve diamond of machine-embroidered "SD" in silver-grey thread over a black wool diamond, hand-applied. 1934 pattern single shoulder board of alternating black/aluminum twist cord on black wool backing, hand-applied and retained with silver pebbled button. Blank right regimental collar tab of black backing with black/aluminum twist cord piping. Left rank tab with a single silver finish pip, below a single strip of silver-aluminum litze with black centre stripe, on black cloth backing with piping in black/aluminum twist cord, both tabs machine-applied. Right sleeve with Honor Chevron for Ex-Members of the Police and Armed Forces, of silver-aluminum tresse with two inner black stripes on triangular black backing, a silver-aluminum hand-embroidered single rank pip at centre, hand-applied. An EKII ribbon is sewn to the top buttonhole, no award loops. Lined in grey rayon with striped sleeve linings, one inside breast pockets, a lower inside waist pocket on the right panel and an opening in the left waist pocket for edged weapon suspension. Heavy wear and damage to the inside lining neck area around collar, minor abrasions to front chest area and upper back. This is an early tunic from the transition to field-grey at the outbreak of war in 1939. Buttons are SS/RZM marked with proper contract number for 1939 manufacture. The original cuff title was likely removed when owner was deployed out of SD Sipo domestic organization, a proper and correct replacement is now pinned in place. Tunic is consistent with production ca. 1937-1939 as the collar and collar tab piping was discontinued in 1939-1940.
