Plain octafoil, on eight bracket feet, the centre slightly later engraved with a coat-of-arms within a rococo cartouche, engraved on the reverse with a presentation inscription, marked underneath
15½ in. (39.4 cm.) diameter
56 oz. 14 dwt. (1,765 gr.)
The inscription reads: 'This Legacy was given by the Hon.ble William Maynards who Dy'd the 7 March 1716/15'.

William Maynard (b.c.1666-1716) was the first son of Banaster Maynard, 3rd Baron Maynard (b.c.1642-1718) and his wife Lady Elizabeth Grey, daughter of Henry, 10th Earl of Kent (1594-1651). His will dated the 13 March 1715 leaves bequests of £20 to his brothers and sisters 'to buy rings or what else they think fitt [sic.] to keep in remembrance of me...'

The arms are those of Battell impaling Davies of Hope, co. Montgomery, for the Reverend William Battell (1714-1749) of Combe Grove, Somerset, rector of Camerton and Kilve, and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas Davies of New House, Herefordshire, whom he married in 1743, as recorded in a Bargain, Sale and Mortgage document held by the Bath and North East Somerset Record Office, in the Vaughan-Jenkins family of Combe Grove, Bath archive, (B&NES Mss. 0339/7/26).
