A Silver Cutlery Box from the Falconry "Falknerhof Greif"
36-piece silver cutlery set of twelve knives, forks and spoons each, coat of arms with falcon claws engraved on handles, silver hallmark and jeweler name “C.A. Krall”. Knife length 25.5 cm, weight of cutlery pieces ca. 2850 g. Black leather case with gold embossed inscription “Falknerhof Greif” on top, lined in magenta colored silk. Dimensions ca. 57 x 30 x 4 cm.
C. A. Krall, founded in 1794, were important gold and silversmiths from Wuppertal-Elberfeld and mainly supplied German nobility. This cutlery is believed to have come from the property of Klaus Graf Finckenstein (1893 - 1963), who was appointed Gaujägermeister of East Prussia in 1934 and was probably one of the founding members of the German Falcon Order (DFO). The DFO is the oldest falconry association in the world and the oldest association for the protection of birds of prey. In 1921, hunters, ornithologists and cultural scientists interested in falconry had set up the “German Order of Falcons” in Berlin in order to revive the old art of falconry in Germany and to popularize the protection of birds of pretty through education and the gathering of knowledge.
