A Japanese aikuchi, circa 1866
Blade katakiri-ba and hira-zukuri, mu-zori, muji-hada, thin suguha hamon, kaen boshi, on the side of the ridge line a sunken, dark patinated horimono in the form of waves surmounted by several kiri mon. Ubu-nakago with one mekugi-ana, sujikai yasurime, inscribed "Shibuya Minamoto Masatsugu" (10 P. MAS 1203) and "Kei O Ni Nen Nigatsu Hi" (a joyful day in February 1866), "Heijiro Naomitsu" (10. P. NAO 104). Gilt iron habaki with kiri mon. Koshirae with aikuchi mounting in plain black lacquer with horn fittings. Inserted mon mekugi. Kurigata with portrayal of geese, the umbari decorated en suite with the horimono. Length k/m 21 cm, overall length 33.5 cm.
