Los 122 | AMAZONITE WITH SMOKY QUARTZ
Schätzwert
$ 30 000 – 50 000
One of the most classic of all USA origin mineral specimens is not a single species at all, but rather a combination of two species known in association that takes the combination pieces to a new level of aesthetics and rarity. Such is the case with this Colorado classic: it is a glorious combination. Balanced specimens showing a pleasing composition made up of dramatic smoky quartz crystals, with colorful blue amazonite crystals in contrast, are known in average quality but extremely rare at this level of a 3-dimensional specimen that is complete all around. The largest quartz point is 4 inches tall and dominates the matrix at its center of view, and yet it is accented and complemented by the arrangement all around. Such balance is extremely rare. These formed over 100 million years ago and nearly all such specimens are carefully collected from collapsed pockets, and as typical, are expertly repaired to display quality. This one is particularly well composed, well repaired, and aesthetic. This is an old piece that came from the collection of George Loud of Virginia, who recently sold his collection after building it for 60 years and more. Loud was known for assembling the most important and comprehensive USA-focus mineral collection in private hands, at over 7000 pieces. This was his finest example of a Colorado amazonite with smoky quartz. With a custom molded lucite display base.
