Los 18 | Die weibliche Bon-Gottheit Satrig Ersang
Schätzwert
€ 1 500 – 2 500
THE FEMALE BON DEITY SATRIG ERSANG - Nepal, Dolpo, 16th c. - Tempera and gold on cotton fabric. Satrig Ersang is one of the four highest meditation deities of the Bon tradition. She is associated with the "Lovely Goddess of Wisdom and Compassion" - Sherap Chamma. This is considered an equivalent of Green Tara as an emergency helper from Eight Dangers. Moreover, both goddesses are seen as emanations of the Buddhist wisdom goddess Prajnaparamita. Their iconographic colors are golden yellow. In her right hand Satrig Ersang holds a lotus stick with the swastika symbol, and in her left a mirror. She is crowned with a fivefold crown and dressed in golden jewels. On her body she wears silk robes. In the diamond seat the deity is enthroned on a lotus above a white moon disk. Her body is surrounded by a broad aura, and her head by a gloriole. Above her crown appears as a miniature Tönpa Schenrab Miwo. Two accompanying deities flank the central deity. The deity is framed by the six allegorical animal representations associated with a world ruler (cakravartin): Garuda, serpents, macaras, rams, lions, and elephants. Numerous miniatures of the Tönpa Schenrab Miwo are, in alternating colors, arranged in rows like a pyramid. In the center, at the bottom, appears the protective Bon deity Welse Ngampa, with nine partly animal-headed heads and eighteen arms. Followers of the Swastika Bon also regard Tönpa Schenrab Miwo as a fully enlightened Buddha, just as the Indian prince Siddharta Gautama, born about 2500 years ago, is recognized as an "awakened one" - a Buddha. Parallels in biographies, such as birth and renunciation, enlightenment and entering Paranirvana, are obvious. Since Tönpa Schenrab, appeared in much older times, the followers of the Bon doctrine consider Buddha Sakyamuni, and also Guru Padmasambhava, as disciples of Schenrab Miwo, in their previous lives. Framed under glass. - Important German private collection, collected in the 1970s and 80s, mainly acquired from Schoettle Ostasiatica, Stuttgart Wear, damages due to age
