GAURICO, Luca (1476-1558) - Tractatus astrologicus. Venice: Curzio Troiano Navò; Bartolomeo Cesano, 1552.

First edition, densely annotated, of the treatise on judiciary astrology by Luca Gaurico who was a court astrologer for Caterina de Medici and Pope Paul III. In the work, the author outlines and groups the birth charts of numerous individuals in an attempt to demonstrate the influence of the astral positions of the birthdays on people. The treatise is divided into six chapters: the first reviews the destinies of the cities by analyzing the day of their foundation, the second is dedicated to the Popes, the third to the princes, the fourth to illustrious men, the fifth to the violent deaths and the sixth to those who have developed malformations or incurable diseases. This copy is enriched by a large amount of calculations and notes made by a follower of the astrologer in the mid-17th century.

4to (213 x 150mm). Vignette on title, numerous astrological representations in the tex (some spotting, small wormtracks in the upper right margin without loss of text between o1-t3). Contemporary vellum with manuscript title on spine and edge (small chips on spine). Provenance: Numerous predictions, astrological notations and calculations, some dated in the mid-17th century - Thom. Oder Genuensi (ownership inscription on page 14).
