An elegant Roman double gold ring with Heracles knot, 1st - 2nd century A.D.
Gold ring consisting of two hoops connected at the bottom, with filigree ornamentation running continuously over both hoops. The hoops are smooth on the inside and slightly curved on the outside, narrow at the bottom and continuously widening towards the top. Both bezels with a framed cabochon. On each side a Heracles knot of paired gold wires, bounded at the top and bottom by loops with granules. Weight 12.55 g. Ring size 60 (Germany) and 8.75 (US). Maximum outer diameter 2.4 cm. Almost perfectly preserved ring of attractive design.
Provenance: South German private collection, acquired on the art market in the 1980s.
