A MAGNIFICENT MAUBOUSSIN GOLD AND ENAMEL "BUTTERFLY CLIP" BROOCH - Paris, Maison Mauboussin, circa 1960 - Naturalistically designed brooch with fine translucent Plique-á-Jour enamel in 750/000 yellow gold (French hallmarks and company mark), approx. 76 brilliant-cut diamonds total ca. 4,00ct TW/VVS-VS, cabochon-cut and leave carved rubies total ca. 6,5ct - estimated, emeralds in cabochon cut and carved as leaves ca. 9,5ct - estimated, sapphires calibrated cut, the stones have been individually cut total ca. 6,00ct. Weight: ca. 56,0g. Original case. - Private Collection Cologne, acquired at the West German Art Fair (Westdeutsche Kunstmesse) in 1990, Galerie Blaues Palais Düsseldorf. In 1827, cousins ​​Rocher and Noury ​​founded their jewelry business in Paris. The jewelery is made according to their own designs, entirely in line with the fashion of the time. In 1883 her nephew Gorges Mauboussin joined the company. 15 years later he takes over the company and from 1922 he trades under his own name. In 1924 he opened his first branch in New York. In the following years Mauboussin takes part in countless exhibitions, which increased the reputation of the house even more. Mauboussin was one of the best jewelers in the world. The house has gained international recognition for its magnificent Art Deco and retro pieces of jewellery. The Maharajah of Indore was one of the house's illustrious customers, as was the Egyptian royal family. But in particular Hollywood stars such as Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich or Paulette Goddard, Charly Chaplin's wife, established the legendary reputation of La Maison Mauboussin. The French jewelry designer René Sim Lacaze (1901-2000) designed a butterfly clip for Mauboussin for the first time, a design drawing from 1941 has been preserved.
