Los 240 | HITTORFF, Jacques Ignace
Schätzwert
€ 500 – 800
Rare work by Hittorff that documents the excavation carried out at Selinunte in 1823 and the discovery of traces of polychrome pigments on the friezes of the temples. The discovery, documented in this work, had a fundamental impact on the vision of classicism and refuted the thinking of Winckelmann and Canova who wanted classical art to be dominated by a rigorous rejection of colour.
.
