Los 124 | MANGO QUARTZ
Schätzwert
$ 40 000 – 60 000
Although quartz is perhaps the most common collectible mineral species, for both passionate collectors and the wider public, it comes in seemingly endless varieties. The crystal world expects few true surprises, however, among quartz and quartz finds. Surprisingly, though, in around 2018 rumors started coming out of a new find of "mango quartz" coming from Colombia. A stampede to the mines ensued, and a run of production followed which peaked, tapered, and has now died off. The deposit was heavily worked in its brief time and is now said to be mostly exhausted. Large specimens of consequence, such as this, were few and far between. Many were given nicknames and marketed to museums. This piece, nicknamed "the hedgehog", was acquired from the private collection of one of the partners in the mines, an American living in South America who was able to high grade and keep material during peak production. Supported on a custom molded lucite display base.
9¼ x 8⅛ x 6½ in. (23.5 x 20.5 x 16.5 cm.)
