Los 55 | Nicolas Spirinx (fl.1606-1643)
Schätzwert
£ 3 000 – 5 000
A rare set of 11.5cm (4½-inch) celestial globe gores, with a strong, sharp impression. The celestial cartography is based on that of François de Mongenet (see Dekker pp.70, 72, 208-210). Shirley World 271 records two pairs of globe gores, in the Newberry Library, Chicago and at Yale; Shirley considered the Yale set to be 19th-century pulls, while tests on the age of the paper of the Newberry set were inconclusive.
A engraved sheet of 12 celestial globe gores (190 x 365 mm), for a globe 11.5cm (4½-inch) in diameter of globe. First gore with dedicatory cartouche and the 3rd gore with maker's name and date.
