A 16th-century edition elegantly printed in Paris by Jodocus Badius (1462-1535). A pioneer of the printing industry, Badius first worked as an editor and proofreader for printer Jean Trechsel in Lyon (1492-1498). He later moved to Paris where he opened his own printing house in 1503. His production was almost entirely in Latin with a specialization in editions of classical Roman texts and Latin works by contemporary humanist writers.
2 parts in one volume, folio (330 x 215mm). Text in Greek and Latin, elaborate frontispiece within architectural border, elegant woodcut initials in large and smaller format (some occasional soiling, few other small stains and some waterstaining in the second part). Contemporary calf elaborately decorated in blind, later spine label with gilt title, red edges (unfortunately a bit worn with some loss at corners and spine and some general rubbing). Provenance: some elegant ancient annotations and underlining in the text - Nicolaus de la Place (large exlibris)..
