NOTE:
Born in Tokyo, Ogawa Tamejiro (1851–1926) was a successful banker who became Vice President of Hyaku Sanju Bank and later President of Hanshin Electric Railway. He played a major role in the merger of Hyaku Sanju and Shoryu Banks. After the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1911, a large number of imperial objects were dispersed. Deeply inspired by Luo Zhenyu and Kyoto Imperial University sinologist Naitō Konan, he began building his collection, which came to include five National Treasures and thirty-two Important Cultural Properties. The Ode to a Withered Tree, attributed to Zhao Mengfu, which sold for nearly HK$42 million at Christie’s Hong Kong in October 2025, likewise came from this collection.
