Dedicated to Tei Junsoku (1663-1734)
NOTE:
Tei Junsoku was a Confucian scholar during the Second Shō Dynasty of the Ryūkyū Kingdom. He traveled to Fuzhou, where he befriended scholars and literati of the Qing Empire and studied under the Confucian master Zhu Tianzhi. He restructured the government system of Ryūkyū, established schools, and taught Confucianism to the sons of the local gentry. He compiled a volume of Confucian maxims, which he presented to the shōgun. This work was incorporated into the official education system for over two hundred years, and its impact can still be seen in Japanese textbooks from the early 20th century.
