Vasily Vasilievich Vereshchagin (Russian: Васи́лий Васи́льевич Вереща́гин) was a Russian painter and writer of the second half of the 19th century. He is known as a painter, one of the most brilliant battle painters of his time.
Vasily Vereshchagin traveled extensively and visited several wars. His paintings demonstrated the inhumanity of war and its catastrophic consequences, such as one of his most famous works, The Apotheosis of War. The master's work also includes exotic landscapes and everyday scenes.
