This picture is brought from the open-air in Cesvaine (Latvia). This is the interior of the ruins of the Church in Casabe.
Why I love to draw all sorts of ruins? Obviously: the ruins are a reminder of the inexorable passage of time and the impermanence of everything. However, all is not so simple. Every concrete ruins tell their own story, a story about people who have lived near them, about their aspirations and hope about their relationship to the values and the world. People are always more important and interesting, but... People are often too immersed in the life and daily concerns, so that their relationship with eternity go into the depth of their subconscious, are not very visible to them. But see it and remember the stones. The stones are ready to tell you, unlike people.
Historically, the dominant confession in Latvia - Protestantism. And the most valuable - land. Of course, some churches tried to win for yourself a serious piece of parishioners. In General, in Casabe at the end of the 19th century was built the Orthodox Church - to all who have accepted Christianity, gave the ground. Fast enough Kozdoba turned into a rich town with its Great schools, etc. - live and be happy. However... the Storms of the last century and walked on the little Kozdoba: the Church has long been empty and ruined, will soon collapse completely, unnecessary and somewhat alien to those in Latvia's forests. And from Ozdoby there are only two houses where someone still lives...

Information about the artist
