Maxixe-beryl is not a variety of aquamarine. The fact that the mineral has been given its own trade name is due to its special colour. In contrast to the typical seawater blue to green-blue colour of aquamarine, Maxixe-beryl is a deep blue, dark colour - comparable to the blue of tanzanite, iolite and cordierite. The Maxixe mine is located in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, which has gained worldwide fame due to the many minerals and gemstones that are mined locally.
