LATE HEIAN-EARLY KAMAKURA PERIOD (12TH-13TH CENTURY)
Carved and assembled from cypress wood in warihagi zukuri technique and modeled as the Amitabha Buddha standing, the right hand raised in vitarkamudra and the left held in dhyanamudra, the hair arranged in small, snail-shaped spiral curls (rahotsu), wearing robe open at the torso and falling in pleats, the body applied with gilt lacquer, the inlaid crystal eyes painted with black pupils
