ID 887946
Lot 168 | A franked address panel sent to Louisa Adams
Estimate value
$ 600 – 800
One page, 64 x 120mm (light soiling, trimmed).
A scarce example of John Quincy Adams's franking signature as Senator from Massachusetts, addressed to his wife, "Mrs. John Q. Adams. Boston Massachusetts." Adams served in the U.S. Senate from 1803 to 1808—a period of political transformation as he pulled away from Federalist orthodoxly much as his father had before him. Although he declined Democratic-Republican offers to run for office on their ticket, he did accept the post of U.S. Minister to Russia under James Madison's administration in 1809 and would serve in Monroe's administration as Secretary of State.
