Lot 31 | A geodesic grid
Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983).

Drawing of 'A four-frequency geodesic grid' signed ('Buckminster Fuller') and inscribed to Ruth Skirius, Vienna, 7 September 1980.

In brown and red marker pen. One leaf, approx 265 by 210mm. In a card mount, 352 x 305mm.

An unusual signed piece closely linked with Fuller's most famous design, the geodesic dome. Although the earliest geodesic domes were built in Germany in the inter-war period, it was Fuller who originated the name 'geodesic' in the 1940s, and who received the US patent for them in 1954. The present illustration represents the triangulation required in a higher ('four-frequency') order of dome.
